Death

Garrion's guide for the dead.

Death and Life

Whats it all about?

It happens to us all. It may be from walking into the Ankh accidently or picking on someone twice your size but sooner or later we will all be getting a visit from the one who TALKS LIKE THIS.

'Are you Death?'
IT'S THE SCYTHE, ISN'T IT? PEOPLE ALWAYS NOTICE THE SCYTHE.
--The Fifth Elephant

So what do you do when the very thin man comes to say hello? Well first of all, don't panic. Just wait for the dwarf to pop on by and give you a book that will offer some advice.

There are things about death on the disc that must be pointed out. The first is that all those little items that you have worked so hard for are still on your corpse and will stay there unless you give another player permision to remove them. Your corpse is also protected from another player burrying or dragging it. This is of course true only for Non Player Killers (NPK's). Player Killers or PK's are not protected in this manner.

Your corpse may be subject to other influences however such as being eaten by rats or rotting away. Rotting will take a fairly long time and even then your items will be left behind. These items may now be picked up by anyone.

So I am dead....

Who will help me?

There are two ways of returning to the living.

Raise dead will bring you back to life and thats pretty much it. You will then need to be healed because your HPs will start at 1 and you will need to be Restored because you will have negatives on all of your statistics. Some Wizard's spells will be lost and if you have Rituals remembered, these will be lost also. But most hurtful is the fact that you will lose all the xp you had prior to dying. Some NPC's can perform "Raise dead" and are listed in the handy little book mentioned earlier.

Resurrect will bring you back to life and restore your statistics, you may even retain some of your remembered rituals and learnt spells but not all of them. You will still need to be healed because your HPs will start at 1. This is by far the most common method of being reborn because you will retain some of the xp you had prior to death. The amount of xp retained is wholly dependant on the person who is performing the resurrection. The higher their bonus in faith.rituals.curing.target, the higher the percentage of xp return. NPC's are unable to perform "Resurrect" so you will have to ask another player to help you out.

The only players in the game that are given the ritual "Resurrect" are Pishe priests. This does not mean that they are the only people that can "Resurrect", it just means that they are the easiest way to find someone to help you. Type "who pishe" to see the current Pishites online. Ask one of these friendly people to resurrect you.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all Pishites can Resurrect!

This is a very specialised skill and requires very high bonuses to be successful. Please read the guidelines near the bottom of this page.

Need more lives?

How much is your life worth to you?

You are alive again but have one less life. By now those first three lives you started with may be getting pretty thin. This section explains how to get more.

The Goddess Pishe not only grants her priests and priestesses the power to bring the dead back to life, she also has the power to give you more lives......for a price.

Pishe seems to have a fondness for royals ($100 AM). She asks that you give her a gift of these in exchange for life. The amount that she asks depends on a few things but your first life should cost you one royal and slowly increase from there.

Once you have a nice little pile of royals in your pocket, travel to the Apocathary Gardens in Ankh-Morpork. In the centre of these gardens you will find a temple of Pishe. You will need a small donation to enter this temple so make sure you have a few dollars extra or this will be taken from one of your shiny royals.

Inside the entrance is a man known as Tore Kare. Travel one room northwest from him and you will find the life pool. To ensure that you are in the correct location it is a good idea to type 'syntax toss'. This will give you the correct syntax if you are in the right location. Then all you have to do is type 'toss 1 royal into pool' and repeat until you are granted an extra life.

This process puts extra strain on your body and will decrease your statistics. You will need to have someone perform 'Restore' on you before you can repeat this process.

Guidelines to Resurrection

Be Polite

The person coming to help you is doing just that....helping you. The simple words please and thank you will go a long way. We understand that you have just died and maybe lost a lot of xp, this is not our fault so please do not take it out on us.
Many consider shopping for the best Resurrectionist online bad manners. You can ask people their bonuses, but do not be surprised if they do not tell you.

Give Detailed Information

The person coming to help you needs some detailed information. This includes where exactly you are. City, street name and nearby landmark is very helpful and will speed the process up. Saying "I am in Ankh-Morpork on short street" is not as good as "I am in Ankh-Morpork on short street, 2 rooms south of God street". Information about any dangers in the room with you are also appreciated.

Stay Put

Whenever it is safe to do so, stay with your corpse. This will make it easier to find you and to recover your gear. Also, the person coming to help you does not want to travel to you just to find out that you have wandered away. Staying put will speed the whole process up.

Be Patient

Ask one person and wait for a response, if a few minutes go by with no response ask another and mention that you have asked someone already but they are not responding. Once a response is given wait patiently. The person coming to help you is playing this game too. They may be in a group or mid battle and have to finish what they are doing or take their group mates to a safe location. They may have just prayed and have to regenerate gp before they can travel to you. When they arrive they will most likely have to wait for gp to regenerate again and wear special items to enhance their healing power. We know you have things to do, but remember these people are trying to help you while they could be off doing their own thing.

Be Grateful

This is a simple one but is the most overlooked. The person that just brought you back to life has spent a long time working on their skills to be able to perform this service. Even the most skilled person will not give you back vast amounts of xp. be happy that you got any xp back at all. They have put their game on hold to help you and deserve to be thanked for this. Most people do not require payment but donations are welcome. I find thanks more than enough payment.
