You hold the goatherd's crook aloft above the centre of the octogram.
You form a small knife of pure magic and carve a setting for the ankhstone into your goatherd's crook's interior.
You force the very essence of the ankhstone to merge with the goatherd's crook.
You empower the goatherd's crook to be able to contain the brilliance of the gem.

Success

Octarine flames wash over the goatherd's crook.

Failure

To others

Wizard holds a goatherd's crook above the centre of the octogram.
Wizard slowly runs her hands over a goatherd's crook.
Wizard presses her eyes shut.
Wizard twirls a goatherd's crook around in circles.
Wizard looks at the goatherd's crook with a satisfied expression on her face.

[edit] Effects

This spell adds a line to the staff's description:

Sparks of octarine light run across its surface.

This line appears over the one that describes its level of enchantment, and in fact if the staff was not already enchanted[research], the spell will add a small amount of enchantment to it:

It occasionally pulses with octarine light.

Apart from this, the staff will emit occasional item chats, some visible only to wizards. These range from the minor (coloured smoke pouring out) to the bizarre (a warty green hand coming out), with minor effects being more common.

[edit] Notes

This spell is permanent, but can be removed in the wizard's tent on the Street of Cunning Artificers in Ankh-Morpork.
