The manchiru is a padded upper-torso wrap that is often worn under the tatami do. A blindingly simple piece of clothing, the manchiru is a single piece of fabric that is wrapped soundly around the belly. Usually composed of three layers, this manchiru has a few extra layers of batting in strategic places.

The padded manchiru is about two and a half feet long and about a foot and a half wide. It is made of leather and could be worn as armour.
