I thought I'd heard (though I can't seem to find the dev blog post about it) that with finesmithing it was just a matter of "gold or more expensive uses the gold skill, everything less expensive uses silver". Does electrum really use both? --Ilde 19:39, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

It would certainly make sense to use both - electrum is an alloy of gold and silver... --Chat 19:52, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
It would make sense, I agree; I just thought I remembered seeing differently and I wondered where the information came from. Could be misremembering though--it might be that what it actually said was along the lines of "electrum now uses the x skill" and I misinterpreted it. (On reflection, I think it was a board post, not a blog post. Hmmm.) --Ilde 20:43, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Value

I've tried creating two oak rings and while admittedly they've been the bottom two tiers of quality, they've had no value. Has anyone else created something with an actual value? --B (t|c) 15:14, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I created a marginally-above-average chain of stars and sold it. I think I made a (very small) profit. On the whole, however, most things I have made have been of no value. --Chat 19:04, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
My wizard is making a tidy living off of fencing oak rings, now that I've gotten cr.sm.gold to 250 or so. I don't have much in the way of trading skills, though, or the value command, so I don't know how much they're really worth. --Ilde 02:46, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, so, after a few tries and some murdering in Sto Lat, I have a silver oak ring that looks like "This ring is a simple band of silver, with a single detailed oak leaf set as a jewel at the front." and values at exactly $10. I should probably value a few of them and put it up on the Research tab. Could I take a look at a couple of yours, Ilde, to see how the value compares? I'm guessing the material will have some sort of multiplier on the base value of each quality level for each pattern. --B (t|c) 15:05, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Hm, okay, not so simple. I just produced a ring with the same long description, but no value. I guess it must be more complex - I failed a lot more of the skillchecks for the ring I just produced (scratching it a lot) than the one worth $10. I guess I should start charting long, fails vs successes, and value. --Beale (t|c) 16:01, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, that's weird. You fixed it up before you valued it? (PS, I stop after the sculpting stage--the polishing doesn't seem to make much (any?) difference (I remember valuing an unpolished ring in shop, finishing polishing it, and valuing it again and it being the same/very close) and in the time it takes I can make another ring.) And sure, you can see some of mine, though I don't keep track of number of passes/fails. --Ilde 19:31, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Polishing

As of now polishing does not add any value to the rings and is only good for TMing cr.sm.bl.tools. Which it does at a very low rate, but we can hope for a real implementation and consequence of the polishing part, either by raising the value further or by decreasing the value of unpolished rings? --Xorphitus 15:15, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
