Ug Ogg is a djelian armourer who makes and sells custom armour in his smithy located in the Djelian Guard Barracks in Djelibeybi.

He used to live in Lancre but left. He occasionally mumbles something about too many witches back in Lancre and that he won't ever go back.

Specific armour pieces ordered or just previewed can be found in the Ug Ogg Armours page.

Cracked stone information

Comparative information about the performance of materials and types of armour is written in djelian on the cracked stone in the armoury.

Type of armour

Chain armour can only be made from metal.

Also, it seems that chain armour might be in a different layer than plate and other types.[research]

Furthermore, armours that are both plate and mail can block each other, for example skirt and miniskirt.

Categories

Ug Ogg lists his armour in categories.

Please be advised that while armours appear in a single category this doesn't translate into coverage of a single zone or multiple zones. For example, skirts cover legs and abdomen, but skirts are not in the groin category. Greaves cover only legs but are together with skirts in the legs category.

Actual coverage is best discovered by checking what a normal item with the same base name (i.e. skirt, greaves, gloves, socks, etc.) covers before ordering some expensive piece. The same goes for finding out conflicting armours and clothes, try with a cheap mundane version. Occasionally this doesn't work.

Parts enclosed in [ ] are optional.

Types of armour separated by a : vurdere the same and such groups are enclosed in ( ), while those separated by a | do not vurdere the same.

padding

  • padded cap / shirt / undershirt / underwear / trousers / socks

The only materials available for padding armours are cloth and leather.

A padded cap protects the head and hair.
A padded shirt protects the back, chest and arms.
A padded undershirt protects the back and chest.
A padded underwear protects the abdomen.
The padded trousers protect the legs and abdomen.
The padded socks protect the feet.

Ordering process

To order armours from Ug Ogg you only need to type your choice, not say it.

To stop at any time before seeing the final result you can type end, to refuse the armour when it is presented type no.

Armour Type

You can order one of the the pieces listed in Categories.

order <armour type>

Material

If ordering padding, you can choose between: cloth / leather.

For chain armour and variants only the metal options are available: bronze / brass / copper / iron / klatchian steel / metal / silver / steel.

Otherwise, you can also choose: bone / leather / wooden.

For shields you can also choose: stone.

The Materials section can help you select a material.

This affects the short name of the piece, which becomes: <material> <armour type>.

Style

You need to choose a style: agatean / antique / archery / auriental / barbarian / cavalry / djelian / dwarven / ephebian / genuan / gothic / guard / hunter / infantry / klatchian / knightly / lancrastian / legionary / mercenary / military / morporkian / nondescript / ornamental / pirate / regal / riding / ruffian / sailor / samurai / soldier / swashbuckler / thug / tsortean / uberwaldean

Order research indicates that this options does not change the cost, it only adds an hidden adjective to the resulting armour and the word in the description.

Treatment

You can optionally choose to add a treatment.

This adds a visible adjective to the short name of the piece, which becomes: <treatment> <material> <armour type>.

Treatments available for all armour are :

blackened / cracked / darkened / pitted / pocked / smooth / stained / studded / warped / waxed / worn

Treatments available only for metal armour (bronze / brass / copper / iron / klatchian steel / metal / silver / steel) are :

anodized / blinding / chipped / corroded / dented / dull / galvanized / gilded / gleaming / glimmering / glossy / lustrous / polished / rusty / seared / shiny / tarnished / tempered

For every treatment, the cost of the item is increased by a percentage of the base cost. The percentage for each treatment is in the following table.

Treatment  % base cost

anodized 4 Metal
blackened 4 All
blinding 5 Metal

Quality

You must then select the quality of the materials: inferior / low / medium / high / premium.

This is visible in the description of the item and should modify the characteristics of the piece.

Trim

For some armour types you can opt to add trim. Some types of armour might require trim.

All choices seem available for the different materials.

Order research did not reveal any changes except the increase in price. Ug Ogg's weight estimation and vurdere seemed unaffected.

If choose to add trim you need to pick a trim type, which adds a percentage on the item's base price as described in the following table.

Coat of arms

For some armours you can optionally add your coat of arms.

You won't be offered this option for chain or lamellar armour. Also some armour types like collar and cuirass don't offer it.

It will add 1.67 % of the base cost to the purchase price.

If you also add a symbol the line added looks like:

Embossed upon [ it | them ] is the coat of arms of <your name> of <locale>, featuring a <symbol modifier> <symbol colour> <symbol type> on a <symbol background colour> background.

You need to select what area you want associated with you on the coat of arms.

Lining

For some items you can also have it lined.

Some armour like brigandine or scale armour or jackets of some materials require lining, it is not optional.
You can't add lining to padded armour, lamellar armour or some items like the banded cuirass.

The material selected influences the cost of the item in the following fashion:

Lining
material
% base cost
increase
cloth 0.2
cotton 0.2
hemp 0.6
leather 2
linen 0.4
silk 1

The colours available:

black / blue / brown / green / grey / orange / pink / purple / red / white / yellow

Colours do not seem to influence the cost.

Result

At this point you should have given all the options Ug needs to give you information about what you'll get if you order.

Short Name

The short name, that is what you see when you look at the container where the object is, is based on the options selected as follow:

Ug shows you the <treatment> <material> <armour type>.

Description

The description is then displayed, derived from your choices:

This <treatment> <style> <armour type> is made from <quality> grade <material>. <coat of arms/symbol> <lining/trim>

Weight

Ug then gives you an estimate of how much it will weigh.

Weight is derived from the areas the armour covers, and the vurdere info which depends on the material, armour type and quality.

For klatchian steel, the relative weight of each area is as follow:

Zone Factor
head face hair 2
neck 1
hands 1
arms 3
chest 4
back 3
abdomen 3
legs 6
feet 2

These values do not seem to work for padded armour. Possible reasons include: they are not homogeneous but rather different types of armour like plate vs brigandine; low weight items work differently; quantum; a wizard did it.

No other options seem to make a difference in the weights Ug Ogg reports. It is possible that a small variation too small for the precision of Ug Ogg's estimates exists.

Vurdere

Ug then tells you what the vurdere of the object will be, but he doesn't tell you what will be covered.

The vurdere is a combination of the material, armour type and quality.

Cost

Before you agree to the order, Ug also tells you the price you'll have to pay on collecting the armour.

The combination of material and type of armour gives the base price.

Then percentage modifiers (treatment, quality, trim, coat of arms, symbol and lining) are added. Multiple modifiers do not affect each other, they are based on the base price. For example, adding a treatment does not make lining more expensive.

Then there are modifiers based on the guild of the one ordering.

Ug favors warriors with a lower price, while charging more for witches and even more for thieves.[research]

Time until it is ready

After you decide to order, Ug will tell you when the armour will be ready.[research]

While this could be based on a lot of factors, the simplest explanation is that it could be related to the price (which is based on the lot of factors).[research]

The time needed seems to range from a few roundworld hours for the cheapest padded pieces to 2 or 3 days for the biggest pieces made in klatchian steel.
