Watch is a command that can be used to increase your adventuring.perception bonus temporarily.
Using
While you are actively watching, your watch bonus will be increased and Guild Points will be taken from you regularly to maintain your level of alertness. Moving is slowed.
To use it, you use watch low, watch medium or watch high.
You force yourself to be more alert and to watch your surroundings more intently.
It adds a description line while watching (any level of awareness):
She looks very alert and watching her surroundings.
You can use watch stop or watch off to stop watching or it will stop on its own when you lack the gp to sustain it or when you enter combat.
Your concentration wanes and you stop watching your surroundings as intently.
You can use watch to report if you are currently watching and at what level of alertness.
You cannot watch when you are out of adventuring gp, fighting, blinded or dead.
Moving to other rooms while watching is slowed significantly.
How it works
When watching, your level of adventuring.perception will be multiplied by a factor depending on the watch alertness level, then the bonus for that level will be calculated according to your stats ignoring any temporary stat increases but including all stat penalties and then 10 will be added, like so:
Watch bonus = CalculateBonus( floor( adventuring.perception level * alertness factor / 8 ) ) + 10
There are three alertness levels of watch you can use:
| Alertness level | Alertness factor | Adventuring GP drain | GP per heartbeat average |
|---|---|---|---|
| low | 9 | approximately 3 gp every 2/3 heartbeats | around 2 |
| medium | 10 | approximately 6 gp every 2/3 heartbeats | around 4 |
| high | 11 | approximately 9 gp every 2/3 heartbeats | around 6 |
For example, with the following stats: intelligence: 16 and wisdom: 13, you obtain the following values:
| adventuring.perception | Watch low | Watch medium | Watch high | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| level | bonus | level | bonus | level | bonus | level | bonus |
| 25 | 123 | 28 | 142 | 31 | 149 | 34 | 158 |
| 100 | 209 | 112 | 225 | 125 | 232 | 137 | 239 |
| 200 | 264 | 225 | 287 | 250 | 301 | 275 | 314 |
| 300 | 319 | 337 | 349 | 375 | 370 | 412 | 390 |
| 350 | 346 | 393 | 379 | 437 | 404 | 481 | 428 |
| 400 | 374 | 450 | 411 | 500 | 439 | 466 | 550 |
Note that your adventuring.perception level will not change in skills when using watch, only the bonus. The levels referred to in the previous table are the levels that will be used instead of the real level to calculate the bonus, and adding 10 after is the effective bonus while watching.
It follows from the table that higher levels give greater bonus increases when using watch.
